I know this is quite a tardy unboxing being the November box, but possibly not redundant? I was asked recently about the Glowwbox subscription service by a friend and remembered I had not got this post up. Let’s first take a peek at what was in the November box, then get to the nitty gritty. Cue beautifully staged product placement taken with my camera which is now broken *sobs*
Content: November’s box was the Natural & Organic box inside was as followed – 1. 10ml x2 Weleda Oat Replenishing Shampoo (full size 190ml £8.95) & Conditioner (full size 200ml £9.95). 2. Bellapierre Eye Shimmer Powder in Lust 2.35g £9.75 3. 10ml Beyond Organic Skin Top To Toe in Alpine Rose & Vanilla (Full size 30ml £20.50) 4. 6.5ml Lavera Trend Sensitive Organic Lip Gloss full size £10.50 5. Sample Primae Harmony Balm (Full size 15ml £19.50) 6. Sample Nourish Argan & Kale Anti-Ageing Hand Cream (Full size 50ml £12).
Thoughts currently: I still think that the Glowwbox is an absolutely AMAZING idea (Check out my first Glowwbox unboxing here), but I do also think that the box for me has become a little hit and miss. The excitement of me receiving the boxes each month is not really there anymore. I definitely i’m more surprised when I receive a GREAT box than when the box is not so great.
I personally have observed that I am receiving a lot of the same brands, but just different products from said brand. Urban Veda (which is featured again in the January box), Lavera, Nourish, Bellapierre & Primavera seem to be “favourite” brands featured in the box. October’s & December’s boxes featured the same Lord & Berry lipstick, but in different colours. November’s & December’s boxes features the same Bellapierre Eye shadow in different shades. This Bellapierre shadow if I recall correctly has also featured in other boxes throughout the 12months or so I have been receiving the box. I noticed that there was a real switch in the product selection when the price of the box was reduced to £10 per month from £15, It has since been increased again to £15. I can’t exactly pin point when Glowwbox switched back to a higher price point, but I think it was possibly in the new year. After the Mizani collaboration box there has been an elevated expectation of what’s next and the box has not quite delivered on that expectation.
This GlowwBox launched with the selling point of a “beauty box for women of colour”, there is no real consistent representation of this in the boxes monthly. Yes, the box does feature on and off well known names in black haircare, but not real anything that sets it apart as being a beauty box catering to women of colour. With beauty boxes such as Glossy box featuring brands like Nars, YSL, Benefit Essie etc I would love to see more makeup that is specific to women of colour. This would really set the box apart from the rest and make it more appealing. The GlowwBox is quite skincare & haircare heavy. I think there is still room in the market for a box that truly caters to the beauty enthusiast who just happens to have a little more melanin. This could simple be featuring similar brands to more well known beauty boxes, but in deeper shades.
Would I recommend? For me this would be a box I would probably recommend purchasing on a monthly subscription basis. As Glowwbox shows the products that will be in the box. I would wait till they showed what was in the box and purchase at that point to avoid any disappointment.
