Vibrant orange smackers are major trend for Spring/Summer 2014, making appearances on the catwalk shows of DKNY, Rag & Bone and Prabal Gurung just to name a few. Although an orange lip may seem like a very bold statement (which it is), it actually can be a very wearable shade. It’s all a matter of getting the right shade and finish to suit your style and skin tone.
Tips – 1. You want to keep the rest of your make-up simple and minimal as heavy eye make-up or vibrant blush paired with an orange lip is going to look over the top. The great thing about an orange lip is that it instantly turns a natural look in to something quite edgy and trendy without much effort.
2. Take inspiration from the catwalk and combine orange lipstick with a flawless glowing skin, well-groomed brows and a contoured face. Add black winged eyeliner for an extra touch of glam.
3. When it comes to finishes matte orange lipstick can appear more effortless whereas a glossy lip grabs more attention. If you want to be more subtle whilst trying this trend, opt for a sheer tinted lip balm like Revlon Lip Butter in Tutti Frutti or a lip gloss such as Illamasqua Sheer Lipgloss in Torture.
For olive, tan and caramel skin tones – opt for burnt orange and coral shades like Revlon Lipstick in Kiss Me Coral or MAC Sheen Supreme in Sweet Grenadine.
For dark or deep skin tones – In addition to burnt oranges, darker skin tones can also wear really bold bright oranges and tangerines like Milani Lipstick in 1.MAC Cosmetics Amplified lipstick in Morange, Sweet Nectar, Maybelline and Vivid Lipstick in Electric Orange.
